How does Botox work?

Botox, and similar products like Jeuveau® and Xeomin®, use purified neurotoxins to relax the muscles that create facial lines and wrinkles. These injections soften your facial features, creating a younger, more vital appearance.

What areas respond well to Botox treatment?

These formulas effectively reduce lines and wrinkles in some of the first places to show your age. Botox and other injectable neurotoxin medications are FDA-approved for these areas of focus:

Are Botox injections painful?

Botox and other wrinkle reducers are administered via injections, but the needle is tiny, and treatment lasts just a few seconds. You may feel a slight, fleeting pinch with each injection. If you’re concerned about discomfort, discuss using a topical numbing cream or ice before treatment.

How long can I expect my Botox results to last?

Botox results last three to four months. To maintain your new look, retreatments are required. 

Typically, forehead lines respond well with just five injections into the muscles above your eyebrows across your forehead. For crow’s feet at the outer corners of your eyes, the typical treatment is three injections around the outside of each eye. Ask your practitioner for more information about treatment timelines. 

Does Botox require significant downtime?

One of the biggest advantages of Botox is that it requires no downtime following treatment. You can return to regular activities following your injections. You may experience slight bruising or swelling at specific injection sites, but this can be covered with makeup and resolves within a day or two.

What is the difference between available wrinkle reducers?

Botox, Xeomin, and Jeuveau® contain slightly different formulations. Some may work better on certain skin types or wrinkle formations. Your practitioner assesses your skin and considers your aesthetic concerns to determine which option will be best for you.
